Zagreb is the capital and the biggest city in Croatia, in population, geographic size and economic relevance. Due to special legal status, Zagreb is at the same time urban and regional authority, responsible for urban, urban-rural and regional development.

The City of Zagreb is a part of several EU funded projects (Horizon 2020, Interreg Europe and URBACT) linked to themes of urban development and innovation. These include smart cities, urban planning and governance, urban innovation and fostering urban manufacturing in new share economies.
